The Say It in Sign Language (SIIL) Programme is a South African Sign Language (SASL) training initiative that encourages South Africans to recognise, learn, and use SASL across society. The programme promotes awareness of SASL as an official language of South Africa, while deepening understanding of Deaf culture, inclusion, and accessible communication. Through practical training, participants develop basic SASL skills and appropriate communication approaches for engaging with Deaf people in social and professional contexts.

Target Participants

The programme is for government departments, corporates, registered healthcare professionals, interns, and community service practitioners, as well as frontline and administrative personnel across all sectors.

Delivery is structured on a cohort basis to ensure effective facilitation and optimal learning outcomes. A minimum cohort size of 10 participants is recommended, with flexibility for larger groups subject to programme scope and institutional requirements.
