Established in 2004, SANDA advances the rights, inclusion, and empowerment of Deaf people in South Africa.
Organisation Overview
Founded to strengthen the capacity of the Deaf sector at national, provincial and municipal levels, SANDA works to influence public policy and provide comprehensive human development services that empower Deaf people across all sectors of society. SANDA is a member of the South African Disability Alliance (SADA), the country’s largest cross-disability movement, ensuring Deaf representation within broader disability rights and inclusion discourse.
Board of Directors
The composition of the Board of Directors reflects the diversity and lived realities of the South African Deaf community and the broader society of which SANDA is part. The Board demonstrates strong capability in South African Sign Language (SASL), SASL interpreting, technology and innovation, and applied research in Deaf-led development and Deaf inclusion. Collectively, members bring significant experience in governance, financial oversight, entrepreneurship, public sector engagement, and the arts and cultural economy.
